Thanks for joining me! It’s the start of a new journey for me, and I hope you’ll come along with me.
Specifically, this is a blog about Second Life. If you don’t know what that is, take a few minutes to follow the link and learn all about it. Take your time. I’ll be right here when you get back. And incidentally, any links you follow from this blog will open in a new browser window, making it easy for you to come back when you’re done.
Who Am I?
Maybe a better question would be “What am I?”
In a technological sense, I’m an avatar. An avatar is an icon or figure representing a particular person in video games, Internet forums, and so forth. Does that sound weird? If so, you’ve probably never watched James Cameron’s movie, Avatar.
More prosaically, I’m like a character in a book, a play, or a game. For example, if you’ve ever played Monopoly,® the shoe piece you picked to represent you is your avatar.
And just like an avatar in a book or a play, I only exist within the boundaries of my virtual world. Which, in this case, is Second Life.
More to Come
I’d like to thank you for stopping by. I’ve given you enough to think about for now, but check back later and we’ll get started with the basics:
- How to create your Second Life avatar
- How to customize your appearance
- Where to find free items in Second Life
- And much, much more to come in the next few days
Until then, this is Aisling O’Conner wishing you on this St. Patrick’s Day, sláinte mhaith!
(P.S.: It’s pronounced ash LEEN’)
