For those of you who haven’t been following me long, there are some things we need to make clear. And for those of you who have been with me since the beginning, there’s some new information as well.
First, my name. It’s Irish, and it’s pronounced ASH-leen. Accent on the first syllable, and the “g” is silent. It means “dream” or “vision,” and far from being an ancient Irish name, it wasn’t used as a name until the 20th century.
Next, My “sponsor.” You’ll noticed that while I have no adverts on this blog, I do have a link to Alli&Ali Designs. That’s because while I don’t receive any monetary support from them, I am an official blogger for the company. What does that mean in real terms? Quite simply, all of their products that I review here have been furnished to me free of charge. And while my reviews are usually favorable, if I do find a style I don’t like, I won’t hesitate to say so.
One thing I forgot to mention (mea culpa!) is that whenever Alli&Ali Designs introduces a new style—whether or not I review it—you can always get a free copy of that style in their main store. The only catch is that there’s only one color available as a free item. But hey! Free is free, right?
If you’re interested in their blogging program, stop by Alli&Ali Designs in-world in Second Life.
Hyperlinks: Any and all hyperlinks you click on here will open the link in a new window, making it easy for you to find your way back here.
Now that that’s out of the way, it’s time to move on to…
- Exploring SL
- Customizing your avatar
- Love & Romance in SL
Love and Romance in Second Life
Previous posts have dealt with the first four items in the list, so let’s concentrate on the fifth, Love and Romance in SL.
Many people develop deep, lasting friendships in SL. Some even go so far as to meet up in real life. But whether it’s in SL or RL, people have real emotions. I always make it a point to remember that behind every avatar in SL, there is a real live breathing human being, with real feelings and emotions. And unless and until they demonstrate their unworthiness, I treat them with the respect I wish for myself.
Sometimes your RL feelings about someone in SL are more than mere friendship. The two of you have forged a deep emotional bond based on trust, respect, shared interests, etc.—basically, whatever causes you to develop a relationship in RL also applies in SL.
Did you know you can partner (marry) in SL? In fact, since this feature is available to every SL member regardless of gender or species, SL was the first place that same-sex marriages were possible! For more details, follow the partner (marry) link.
And yes, just as divorce is available in RL, SL also features that option to end your relationship. And while marrying costs both partners the same fee ($10L), in a divorce, the initiating partner pays the entire fee of $25L. You wanted out, so the onus is on you.
If there’s a topic you’d like me to cover, you can drop me a line on this blog’s CONTACT page and I’ll see what I can do. Same thing if you have a question. I’m no expert, but I’ve been in SL in various guises for about 12 years, and if I don’t have an answer, I’m pretty sure I can point you in the right direction.
And for now, I’m going to sign off and enjoy the 88°F/31° day! Springtime has finally arrived!
