It’s Been a Couple of Weeks and I Think I Finally Got It!

Ash 5

It,” of course, is the latest upgrade to the Maitreya Lara body. the latest version of which is 5.0.2. In this post, I’m going to tell you everything I like about it, as well as what I don’t like about it.

What I Don’t Like About It

That’s easy: nothing. Absolutely nothing at all. So let’s move on, shall we?

What I Do Like About It

Wow! Where do I begin? Remember in previous versions how you had to add an alpha layer, then the body, then the arms and legs, etc. until you were finally wearing the complete body? That’s changed.

Now you add the alpha layer, and then the body. That’s it. You’re done. Everything else—clothes, tattoos, underwear, lingerie—all have their own layers. And unless you want to wear a tattoo, there’s no need to wear the layer, thus reducing your display weight.

Your skin tones are controlled through a new HUD, as are foot positions, fingernail settings, etc.

Another Something Great

Save sticks. No more worries about saving a particular outfit to, well, the Outfits folder. Find the Maitreya Mesh Body – Save Stick V5.0.1 (rez to rename) in the main Maitreya folder, drag it to the ground and edit the name to something easy to remember that has the name of whatever out fit you’re currently wearing, and take it back into your inventory.

Let’s say I’m wearing a yellow bikini. I’ll follow the steps above, renaming it “Yellow Bikini.” Then I’ll take it back into my inventory. The next step is to ADD it, then click on it:

Save Stick

(The arrow indicates the Save Stick.) Now all I have to do is click on the SAVE ALL button and wait for the process to complete. Then I’ll detach it, and it will return into my inventory.

The next time I want to wear that outfit again, I simply ADD the stick, touch it, and click the Load All button.

Best of all, the complete outfit only takes up a single prim (the Save Stick) in my inventory, as opposed to how many items in that outfit would take up the old way of saving it to the Outfits folder. Oh, and you can have as many save sticks as you need, since it’s copy-able.

Or, How To Get Your Skin to Match Your Maitreya Lara Avatar

Lara, the current Maitreya avatar, comes with a HUD that, among other things, allows you to match Lara’s skin to the head and face of your base avatar. I’m assuming that once you’ve bought your Lara, you don’t have enough $Lindens left over to buy a mesh head. This post will show you how to achieve a perfect match between your body and your face.

Maitreya HUD

The Maitreya HUD controls many aspects of your appearance, including skin tones. If you can’t get an exact match using one of the presets, you can fiddle around with the Hue, Saturation, and Lightness controls. But even then, you may not be able to achieve a perfect match. HINT: That’s what the NECK FIX ON/OFF button is for. It blends your skin and base avatar colors for a closer match.

This is not, however, what I recommend.

Enter Glam Affair & Tableau Vivant

Glam Affair & Tableau Vivant is a site where you can find the perfect match for your skins. I discovered them through the Maitreya Lara Friends group, and checked them out. I purchased a set, and lo and behold, they were an exact match!

SL Daylight Sun Setting is rather harsh, but even in the harsh light you can compare this image with the one above.

Try Glam Affair & Tableau Vivant. I think you’ll be pleased with the results!

If You Want to Spend Money…

While it’s true that freebies abound in SL, sometimes you just have to break down and spend money. The in-world currency is the Linden, often abbreviated as $L. A specific amount, then, would be $L100.

How does this translate into “real” money? That will vary by country, but as of this writing, $L2500 will cost you $10.95 in US dollars. To buy $L, open your dashboard, look for Linden Exchange, and click on Buy. There, if you haven’t already established a payment method, you’ll be walked through the entire process.

Of course, if you have a premium account, you already receive an allowance of $L300 each week, so if you like, you can simply save up your allowance. But if you choose this route, It will take quite a while to save up enough to buy a decent mesh body.

My body came from Maitreya, which is currently the most popular source. Its “Lara” body is extremely high quality, which is one reason it sells for $L2750, or just a little over $11.00 US. It comes with 5 different bodies, which you can modify to your heart’s delight.

Alli  & Ali Designs is my favorite source for hair. Not only do they have a huge selection and reasonable prices, you can also find them on the SL Marketplace. In fact, I usually get my hair there, where many if their offerings sell for $L1.

Lara Hurley Skin completes my initial outfit with one of their free offerings.

Total cost? Less than $12.00 USD. The dress and shoes are available for free at Maitreya, but there’s a catch (but it’s a good one): you need to join the Maitreya V.I.P. group—which you can do at the store. Be sure to join the group before you buy anything; that way you’ll get store credit every time you purchase anything there. NOTE: this doesn’t apply to any of Maitreya’s offerings on the SL Marketplace.

So, for just under $12 US, you get the Lara package, a dress, three pairs of shoes, and a resulting store credit which comes to $L125—which you can then spend on a pair of panties!

Oh—and the dress comes with a HUD (Heads-up Display) that allows you to change its color at the touch of a button!

And that, dear kittens, is it for today!’
